Hola a todos!

En esta primera entrega de nuestra práctica permanente on line queremos acercarles un ejercicio para que practiquen elementos del idioma con los que están familiarizados o conozcan.

El ejercicio es un informe de un canal de noticias de Nueva York, e incluye las respuestas en la última hoja.

Además les queremos dejar un informe de la radio australiana acerca de los millones de pasajeros que quedaron varados en Europa a raiz de la erupción de un volcán en Islandia. Una oportunidad para experimentar cómo es exponerse al Inglés Australiano.

Sean curiosos, exploren, y anímense a equivocarse. De los errores, aprendemos más que de los libros.

A partir de la última semana de abril volveremos a actualizar quincenalmente los Blogs del Centro Universitario de Idiomas.
Si estás recibiendo este e-mail es porque en algún momento te suscribiste a nuestro correo de actualizaciones.

Personal Listening Comprehension & Video Sessions

Hello everyone,

The United Nations Climate Change Conference will take place at the Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, between December 7 and December 18, 2009. The conference includes the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 5th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol. According to the Bali Road Map, a framework for climate change mitigation beyond 2012 is to be agreed there.
Australia's ABC Radio has prepared this report, which we invite you to listen to.


Additionally, we invite you to watch a report on Michael Moore's latest film "Capitalism: A Love Story."

Obama's Nobel Peace Prize

Dear all,

Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday October 9th in a stunning decision that honored the first-year U.S. president more for promise than achievement and drew both praise and skepticism around the world. But along with the prize there is some irony in a country that is at war.
Below you will find an activity that we have prepared based on a report aired by Australia's ABC Radio.

Mr. Loveday's Little Outing

Dear all,

Some courses at CUI, have read or might read "Mr. Loveday's Little Outing" by Evelyn Waugh.
Being a short story adapted for television, it has to be given some cinematic interest - here it is the other inmates chipping in at various points in the story, ghostly faces and voices appearing at windows and popping up in gardens. The unsettling atmosphere leads to a conclusion which you can see coming, but still find surprising. Good performances all round leave this short play satisfying and absorbing.

Below you will find the film, divided in 3 segments for you to enjoy (and at the same time practise your Listening Comprehension skills!). It was originally produced by the BBC in 2006.

Thai HIV Vaccine. Listening Comprehension

Hello everyone!

An HIV vaccine is a hypothetical vaccine against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. As there is no known cure for AIDS, the search for a vaccine has become part of the struggle against the disease.
This week new results have come to light. Today we bring you a report produced by Australia's ABC Radio. May you enjoy it and have fun working on it!
